"In May, 2007 I deployed to Iraq to become the Commanding General responsible for accelerating the growth of the Iraqi Security Forces in size, capability, and confidence. Prior to deploying, I made a series of rounds in the Pentagon and on Capitol Hill. I was met with more condolences than congratulations. The general feeling, no pun intended, was that the war was lost and it was only a matter of time before we would admit our defeat and withdraw. I am getting the same “all is lost” attitude about Afghanistan from what I read and hear around the Washington, D.C. Beltway.

On June 30, 2008, the president signed the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008-also known as the Post-9/11 GI Bill, which is a benefits program for servicemembers who served on active duty on or after Sept. 11, 2001.

The U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y., is looking for a few good Soldiers.Soldier admissions officer Maj. Brian Easley has 85 slots for active-duty Soldiers and 85 slots for reserve-component Soldiers in every class. But he can't fill them-something he finds "heartbreaking," especially because he knows there are many young Soldiers who would excel at West Point and become great officers.

Post-traumatic stress disorder is a serious and often hard-to-treat condition. It can affect the lives of Soldiers and their loved ones severely and can interfere with daily life. Finding the right treatment can greatly improve a Soldier's quality of life.

Graduate school was something Maj. Jason Waggoner had always wanted to check off his list. But between his busy career as an infantry officer (and later, a public affairs officer) with the 101st Airborne Division, repeated deployments and Family commitments, it proved difficult to find the time.
